The North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust is actively involved in the development of youth sport and physical activity within primary schools through a range of initiatives.

Mainpower Primary School Coaching Programme covers 43 schools from Ouruhia, a school on Marshlands Road to Hapuku just north of Kaikoura. Over 5560 children are benefiting from the sports coaching programme as well as many teachers being up skilled each week.

Cluster coaches deliver a structured similar skills based programme to schools in the North Canterbury area.

Teachers are provided with detailed lesson plans of these session delivered. These lessons plans include; learning objective, level, equipment list, diagrams/pictures and games/ activities.

Many of the these pupils are seeing the team of coaches every 2 weeks throughout the school term delivering everything from fundamental skills to more sport specific depending on the needs and interest of the school and their students.
